West of Güzelçamlı and 30km from Kuşadası, is the Dilek Peninsula National Park, a must for those with the time. Here amidst incredibly beautiful surroundings, are some of the most wonderful vistas and some of the rarest wild animals in Turkey, including the Anatolian cheetah and some of the last wild horses. The park is a wildlife preserve, a haven for many species of animals and birds.
Patmos
For a truly sacred travel experience, make your way to Patmos (Jerusalem of the Aegean). It was on this island that St John wrote his divinely inspired Revelation the Apocalypse, the last book of the New Testament.
Patmos is rich in both history and natural beauty. The small, hilly island was populated from as early as 500 BC by Dorians, next the Ionians, and then the Romans from the 2nd century BC. The earliest known temple on the island was the 4th century BC sanctuary of the goddess Diana and it is suspected that the name Patmos may derive from Latmos or Mt. Latmos of Turkey, where the goddess was worshipped.
